Eversource Is Ready To Respond To First Winter Storm Of The Season


Energy company shares tips to help customers prepare


BOSTON (December 1, 2019) - With heavy, wet snow expected to impact its entire Massachusetts service territory, Eversource is planning accordingly and keeping a close eye on the track of the season’s first winter storm. The energy company’s line and tree crews are ready to respond to damage or outages caused by the storm.


“We’re anticipating levels of heavy, wet snow that can weigh down trees or topple damaged ones, along with elevated winds across the state, leading to potential power outages” said Eversource Vice President of Electric Operations Doug Foley. “We will continue to monitor the storm and have field resources and personnel available across the commonwealth.”


Over the next two days, areas north of Boston could see up to a foot of snow, with four to eight inches of snow in Boston and one to four inches along the South Shore. Snow will be predominantly heavy and wet with the heaviest precipitation expected between 7 p.m. tonight through 3 a.m. tomorrow. Elevated wind gusts are also expected on Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard.


Customers should also prepare for any severe weather by assembling or restocking a storm kit and creating an emergency plan with family members, friends and neighbors. Eversource also offers the following tips on its website to help customers prepare for emergencies:

The company also reminds customers to always stay clear of downed wires and to report them immediately to 9-1-1. Be sure to report any outage online at www.eversource.com, or by calling 800-592-2000. Customers who signed up for the company’s two-way texting feature can also send a text to report an outage and receive outage updates as they happen.
