Silicon Valley Bank CEO Greg Becker Named Chairman of TechNet

Washington,D.C. — TechNet, the national, bipartisan network of technology CEOs and senior executives, today announced that Silicon Valley Bank CEO Greg Becker will become Chairman of TechNet.  TechNet was founded by John Chambers and John Doerr in 1997 to ensure the priorities of America’s most innovative companies – from startups to the world’s most iconic brands – are represented in state and federal policy decisions.  As the technology sector continues to be at the forefront of the economy and drives growth and productivity across all sectors, TechNet’s Chairman will play a leading role in supporting the organization as it builds for the future.

Becker has been a member of TechNet’s Executive Council since 2016 and will begin his two-year term on January 1, 2020, after an election of his peers was held on Thursday.

“I am honored to be elected Chairman of TechNet, and I look forward to building on its 22 years of success fostering a climate of innovation and job creation,” said Silicon Valley Bank CEO and TechNet Chairman Greg Becker. “The innovation economy brings together talented people with big ideas to create jobs, grow our economy, and enable more people to unlock opportunity.  The coming decade will open a new era of fierce global competition in the tech sector, and policymakers at all levels will make decisions that impact global leadership in innovation.  I am pleased to have the opportunity to work with TechNet co-founders John Chambers and John Doerr, and all TechNet members during this critical time when engagement between policymakers and technology leaders has never been more important.”

“As the head of Silicon Valley Bank, Greg knows firsthand what innovators need to successfully turn their ideas into reality, making him an inspired choice for TechNet Chairman,”said TechNet President and CEO Linda Moore.  “Since joining the Executive Council, Greg has played a key role in TechNet’s work promoting policies that foster a climate of innovation and entrepreneurship to strengthen America’s economy and bolster our global competitiveness.  We look forward to his continued leadership in his new role as Chairman.”

“Greg’s experience and leadership have been invaluable to advancing TechNet’s priorities, and we are pleased that he will continue his contributions to America’s innovation economy as Chairman,” said TechNet co-founders John Chambers and John Doerr.  “Greg has spent his career championing innovation, helping startups scale across the U.S. and globally, and supporting a diverse and inclusive workforce at Silicon Valley Bank and across the technology sector.  We congratulate Greg and look forward to supporting him in this new era for TechNet as the organization builds for the future and prepares to lead in a new decade that will be dominated by technological advancements.”
