BOSTON — The Baker-Polito Administration today announced Geoffrey Snyder as the new Commissioner of the Department of Revenue (DOR). Snyder has several decades of senior-level leadership experience in the financial industry and previously served as the Deputy Commissioner of Administrative Affairs and Acting Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at DOR.

“Geoffrey’s steadfast leadership in the public and private sectors, broad depth of management expertise and vast knowledge of the finance industry will serve the Department of Revenue extremely well, and ensure the agency can continue delivering excellent service to its constituents,” said Secretary for Administration and Finance Michael J. Heffernan. “We look forward to welcoming Geoffrey back to the team and continuing our work to provide efficient and fair administration of tax policies in a fiscally responsible way and meaningful support for our customers across the Commonwealth.”

Snyder’s effective start date is Monday, March 30. Current DOR General Counsel Kevin Brown has been serving as Acting Commissioner following the departure of former Commissioner Chris Harding for a leadership position at Slalom Consulting in December 2019.

“I am honored to serve as the new Commissioner of the Department of Revenue,” said Snyder. “I’m proud to continue the agency’s work to deliver excellent customer service to taxpayers and ensure tax policies and programs are carried out accurately and effectively, in ways that support our customers’ needs.”

Snyder worked as the Director of Equity Sales and Trading at Wells Fargo, where he led the company’s Research Sales and Sales Trading operations across the United States and London. He previously was the Global Head of Institutional Sales at Bank of America Securities and the Deputy Head of U.S. Equity Sales at Citigroup Global Markets. He has also served as an adjunct professor of finance at Seton Hall University and as a Managing Director for a global executive search firm.

Snyder served at DOR from 2016 through 2019. In his role as Deputy Commissioner and Acting CFO, he was responsible for providing executive oversight of the finance, HR, internal affairs, facilities management, labor and union relations, internal audit and risk management functions.

Snyder holds a Master’s in Business Administration and Bachelor of Science Degree from Cornell University.
