TechNet Comments on Administration’s DACA Moves

Washington, D.C. — TechNet President and CEO Linda Moore made the following statement regarding the administration’s re-filing of paperwork to end the Deferred Action for Child Arrivals (DACA) program:

“Just last month, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of allowing more than 650,000 DACA recipients to remain in our country and continue contributing to our society and economy.  For most DACA recipients, America is the only home they have ever known. In working to end the DACA program, the administration ignores evidence that more than 90 percent of DACA recipients are currently working, with more than 70 percent of those individuals on the payrolls of Fortune 500 companies; more than 70 percent are pursuing or have pursued a bachelors' degree; and more than 900 Dreamers serve our nation in the military.  They and their households have also contributed to our country's federal, state, and local tax base by paying more than $8 billion in taxes annually.  That is why more than 70% of Americans favor granting legal status to DACA recipients.

Ending DACA will make it more much more difficult to provide essential services during the Covid-19 pandemic and to rebuild our economy.  This kind of disruption to Dreamers' lives, their families, and their businesses would be detrimental and unjust.  TechNet urges Congress to pass a permanent legislative solution so DACA recipients can continue contributing to our country.”
