Take Action: Don't Let Conservatives Weaken the MA Senate's Policing Bill

Progressive Massachusetts

The MA Senate adjourned yesterday without taking further action on their police reform and accountability bill after one Republican senator put a hold on the bill.

Police are flooding legislators with calls and emails demanding that they take out key accountability provisions (such as restrictions to qualified immunity), and conservative Democrats and Republicans are getting antsy about, if not oppositional to, the idea of passing legislation at all.

Can you call your state senator today to tell them you oppose any effort to weaken the bill?

Allowing police officers to kill any effort at accountability sets a terrible precedent for future legislation.

The bill could come up again as early as today.

Here's what you can do now.

(1) Call your state senator and urge the importance of passing a strong bill:

"Hi, my name is [NAME], and I live in [TOWN]. It is essential that the MA Senate pass strong legislation to strengthen police accountability and reinvest in communities, and I urge [SENATOR] to oppose any and all efforts to weaken S.2800."

(2) Send your state senator an email. You can send your own or use the template here.

(3) Pass this on to five friends.

Thank you for all you do.

In solidarity,

Caroline Bays
