Governor Creates Website to Report Businesses Violating COVID Guidelines

Baker Administration Creates Website for Residents to Report Businesses

Governor Charlie Baker has announced a state website to report businesses failing to follow state reopening guidelines. While we know most NFIB members are doing their best to keep up with the many sector specific and general guidelines, you should be extra vigilant to ensure your business is in full compliance.

Plastic Bags: Gone Again? 

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced that the cities and towns with plastic bag bans can begin enforcing them once again. On March 25th Governor Baker issued an executive order halting the use of reusable bags that many health experts felt could increase the spread of the coronavirus. Now that the order is rescinded, many small businesses just reopening their doors will be left with their plastic bags if cities and towns choose to quickly reinstate their bag bans. It will be up to the respective municipality if they allow businesses to exhaust any remaining plastic bags.

The Current Reopening as of 7/13/2020

On July 6th Massachusetts began Phase 3, Part 1 of the state’s reopening effort. This phase includes gyms, fitness clubs, movie theaters (limited capacity), bowling alleys, historical tours, and event venues (which must abide by the state’s gathering rules). Certain indoor recreation industries like roller skating were pushed back to a later part of Phase 3.
