Trahan Statement on Passage of Stopgap Funding Legislation

Washington, September 23, 2020

WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Lori Trahan (MA-03) released the following statement after last night’s strong bipartisan vote in the U.S. House of Representatives to pass H.R. 8337, legislation that will fund the government through December 11th:

“As someone who took office last January in the middle of the longest government shutdown in our nation’s history, I know the devastation that no holds barred politics has on working families in Massachusetts. This bipartisan agreement will keep the government open and continue the operation of critical emergency services at a time when the American people need them most.”

“I’m proud that, in addition to providing funding to continue government operations, the House was successful in negotiating nearly $8 billion in nutrition assistance for children and families and secured the flexibility necessary for states to lower administrative requirements on lifesaving SNAP benefits for families in need during this crisis.”

“While this legislation is sure to pass the Senate, it’s imperative that Republican Senators treat additional COVID-19 relief with the same urgency they have this funding package. Working families continue to struggle to make ends meet while first responders and educators remain at risk of being furloughed or terminated because of budget shortfalls. Leader McConnell and the White House must return to negotiations over a relief package without delay.”
