Stoneham & Wakefield Moving to Create Two Classes of Adults

Last month, we emailed you to urge you to look into an encroachment on our individual liberties taking place in Malden. A political organization named Nicotine Free Generation (TFG) was hoping to create two classes of adults by prohibiting the sale of tobacco and e-cigarette products to anyone born on or after January 1, 2004. That would mean the cut-off applies individuals who are 20 years old or younger, yet in 10 years, those same individuals will be 30 and still unable to buy nicotine products in the jurisdiction.

Thankfully, once we brought attention to this issue people were able to attend the meetings in Malden and register their serious concerns with the plans to expand the nanny state at the expense of our individual rights and Malden ultimately decided to table the proposal.

While peoples rights were protected in Malden, TFG is undeterred and is now pushing similar prohibitions in Stoneham and Wakefield with almost no notice to the public! This is likely intentional given how many of you attended the Malden meeting.

If you want to stop these nanny state policies, the best thing you can do is attend these meetings and register your concerns with the people that are about to make a decision on them.

The Stoneham Board of Health will be voting on their tobacco prohibition TONIGHT (March 26, 2024). If approved, this regulation would prohibit the sale of tobacco and vapor products to anyone born after January 1, 2004.

  • Date: Tuesday, March 26th

  • Time: 6:30 PM

  • Location: Stoneham Town Hall Banquet Hall, 35 Central Street, Stoneham, MA 02180

The Wakefield Board of Health will hold a hearing on their tobacco prohibition law TOMORROW (March 27, 2024). It is unclear if a final vote will be taken at the meeting.

  • Date: Wednesday, March 27th

  • Time: 6:00 PM

  • Location: Public Safety Building, 1 Union Street, Wakefield, MA 01880

Unfortunately, because of the short notice the best way to convey your opposition to these prohibitions is to attend the meeting in person and ask the Board of Health not to move forward with this proposal.

You can also consider signing the petitions opposing the plans in Stoneham,MelroseWakefield, and Malden.

As we’d mentioned in our previous emails, the sale to minors is already illegal. That’s not what this is. This political movement is not about protecting minors, but infringing on the individual liberties of adults and creating two sets of adults going forward. If you are an adult, and born after their arbitrary date, you will not be allowed to purchase any tobacco or e-cigarette products. If you are an adult and born before their arbitrary date, you can. This arbitrary cut-off date will remain on the books as long as the law does.

To TFG, the same legal adults who after they turn eighteen can vote on the future of our country, join the military, or take on hundreds of thousands of dollars in loan debt, will not be given the right to make a decision to purchase tobacco or e-cigarette products if they so choose. This infringement would create two sets of adults wherever it’s passed. Sounds crazy, right?

We urge you to make your voices heard on this issue.
