Secretary Tibbits-Nutt made a string of insensitive comments toward motorists, vowed to raise taxes and fees, and went as far as to describe her authority to use policy as a “weapon.”
Government should never be used as a weapon against the people. People that view taxation and our government as a weapon to be used against individuals they don’t like are a critical danger to our democracy and people rightly lose confidence in any public official who thinks that way. Governor Maura Healey needs to step up and remove Secretary Tibbits-Nutt from her position before she does real damage to the state.

Massachusetts families are struggling right now. The cost of living in our state is skyrocketing and inflation is devaluing people’s wages and savings at a record clip. The poor economic policies of the last several years are causing people and wealth to leave our state at an unprecedented level. To propose NEW tolls on roads like 95, 495, and 93, increase payroll taxes for employers, create new taxes on package delivery, increase people’s automotive excise tax, and increase taxes on rideshare services like Uber and Lyft is not only terrible economic policy, but is incredibly tone deaf to the everyday realities people are currently facing.
The Secretary’s comments show she lacks the temperament and empathy required of a leader in such a public position. The radical and extreme policies she has proposed, which almost invariably consist of new taxes and tax increases targeted at groups which she has some kind of axe to grind, show she doesn’t understand the issues currently facing everyday people in the Commonwealth. We ask the public to join us in our call for her resignation and we ask the Governor to show some leadership and remove her Secretary from office before she actually does have a chance to weaponize her department against the people.
