“If we need to work through these extraordinary circumstances to address these important issues after July 31, we will,” Spilka said. “But we should be able to complete most of this work in the timeframe we are given — and the public shouldn’t have to wait any longer.”

Senate President Karen Spilka

As the legislature enters the typical end-of-session bottleneck, Spilka explains that an extended session through August is possible.

Recipe of the Week

Switchel

Yankee Magazine

Ingredients

  • ⅓ cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon powdered ginger
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 4 cups water or seltzer

Directions

Instructions

Add all the ingredients to a pitcher and stir until combined. Chill. Serve over ice.

Additional Notes:

If you use sparkling water (as we did), make sure to mix the molasses, ginger, and lemon juice together first, and then pour in the sparkling water. Otherwise, the carbonation may cause the pitcher to overflow.

This recipe can be easily adapted to your own tastes by, for instance, changing the amount of sweetener, swapping out the lemon juice for cider vinegar, or experimenting with other citrus juices.
